나는 라틴어를 공부하면서 영어 단어의 60퍼센트가 라틴어에서 온 것임을 알게 되었다. 가령 '고려하다'는 영어 단어 consider는 sidus(별: 영화 제작사의 이름이기도 하다)라는 라틴어에서 온 것이다. com+sidus라는 합성어에서 나온 것으로서, "별 점을 치면서 문제를 숙고하다."라는 뜻을 갖고 있다.
